The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) carried out a surprise immigration enforcement operation in Los Angeles this week, detaining 16 undocumented migrants in what officials described as an effort to combat gang activity in the area.
The raid, code-named “Operation Trojan Horse,” unfolded early Wednesday morning near MacArthur Park, an area that federal agents say has long been plagued by MS-13 influence.

According to reports, the operation began around 7 a.m. when DHS agents emerged from the back of a moving truck parked near a Home Depot on Wilshire Boulevard. Video from the scene showed agents sprinting toward a group of individuals gathered near a street food stand, causing the crowd to scatter in all directions.
Authorities confirmed that 16 people were detained. Those arrested are reportedly from Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua. While officials did not release details about their criminal records, a DHS spokesperson emphasized that the area is considered a “known MS-13 stronghold.”

The use of a Penske moving truck as part of the operation drew public attention. Penske Truck Rental issued a statement clarifying that the company had no prior knowledge of DHS utilizing its vehicle in this way. The company also reiterated that it “strictly prohibits” transporting people in cargo areas and promised to reinforce its policy with federal authorities.

The raid comes amid ongoing legal challenges surrounding federal immigration enforcement. A federal court ruling issued last month temporarily restricted warrantless detentions and criticized DHS for allegedly conducting stops based on ethnicity or occupation rather than probable cause.
