Former Senate Minority/Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky RINO who in recent years appears to be developing several medical problems in addition to his Trump Derangement Syndrome, is thankfully on his way out of the U.S. Senate. McConnell announced in recent months that his current term would be his last, and the MAGA party couldn’t be happier to finally see him go.
That being said, a frontrunner to replace him is already emerging, and the really good news is that he’s not only popular in the state, he’s been endorsed by President Trump. A recent statewide survey by McLaughlin & Associates finds Daniel Cameron leading the Republican primary by 26 points. He draws 44% support from likely GOP primary voters, while Congressman Andy Barr registers 18% and businessman Nate Morris just 2%, with 37% still undecided. With Trump’s endorsement, Cameron’s support jumps to 53%, solidifying his position as the clear frontrunner to succeed McConnell.
“Nobody cuts through the fake news like John McLaughlin,” Cameron posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, praising the renowned pollster behind the survey. “Proud to have a proven champion like him on our team!”
Cameron, Kentucky’s 51st Attorney General, began his career under McConnell—serving as his legal counsel—before making history as the first African American independently elected to statewide office in Kentucky and the first Republican Attorney General since 1948. He rose to national prominence handling the Breonna Taylor investigation and became a leading voice in the conservative legal movement.
After losing the 2023 gubernatorial race to Democratic incumbent Andy Beshear, Cameron took the helm of the 1792 Exchange, a conservative nonprofit countering “woke” corporate policies. Now, with McConnell retiring after a 40-year Senate career, Cameron is positioning himself as the natural heir to McConnell’s influence. Cameron is a solid ‘today’ Republican — champion of the working class and dedicated to restoring our country to its potential — and has the MAGA bona fides to go along with it. The upgrade he would be over McConnell is almost immeasurable.
