Once united, Prince William and Prince Harry now find themselves far from the perfect picture of brotherly love. Kate’s announcement received an outpouring of support from her people, family, and friends, including Harry and Meghan. While the Sussexes issued a formal statement expressing their sympathy, it has also been reported that they reached out to William and Kate privately as well.
According to royal expert and author Tom Quinn, Harry and Meghan’s private message to William did not convey a warm and informal tone, which one would expect from brothers who have been through so much together. The deep-seated ill-feeling between the brothers made it impossible for their communication to be anything but distant.
It is unlikely that the contents of Harry’s message to William and Kate will ever be made public. Reports vary on how and when Harry and Meghan learned about Kate’s cancer diagnosis. Some believe they were trusted with the information prior to Kate’s public video, while others think they found out at the same time as the rest of the world.
