Speaking at the Republican National Lawyers Association’s annual policy conference on Friday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan shared the story of a recent operation in which a 14-year-old trafficking victim was rescued and found to be pregnant.
“We just found one two days ago. A 14-year-old little girl. Living with two adult males. Who trafficked her,” he said. “We found her, she’s pregnant. From trafficking being forced into prostitution. 14 years old. We are taking care of her. Both physically and mentally.”
Homan also addressed misconceptions about immigration enforcement, saying, “Despite what the media says, we are not heartless. We care about these kids. I am a father.” Homan added that he’s committed to combating human trafficking. “That shit is happening every day. We are going to put an end to it. Everything we can do.”
The Department of Homeland Security reports a 93% decline in daily migrant encounters, a 95% drop in “gotaways”—individuals who evade detection and are considered among the highest public safety risks—and a striking 99.99% decrease in illegal border crossings overall. These figures mark a dramatic turnaround from the Biden administration’s record-setting surge, which saw nearly 11 million encounters over four years, along with unprecedented levels of deadly fentanyl entering through the southern border.
The Trump administration’s renewed enforcement efforts have already resulted in the arrests of more than 151,000 illegal immigrants and the deportation of over 135,000—among them hundreds of violent gang members affiliated with MS-13, Tren de Aragua, and 18th Street. Within just four days, Operation Tidal Wave—a broad, multi-agency law enforcement initiative—led to the capture of 780 criminal illegal aliens, including individuals wanted for murder, rape, and drug trafficking.
