Gavin Newsom Faces Backlash Over Remarks About J.D. Vance’s Children During Disneyland Visit

Posted on July 15, 2025 By Star No Comments on Gavin Newsom Faces Backlash Over Remarks About J.D. Vance’s Children During Disneyland Visit

California Governor Gavin Newsom is under fire following a social media post that many critics say targeted Vice President J.D. Vance’s family during their recent visit to Disneyland.

The controversy unfolded as Vance, along with his wife Usha and their children, traveled to Southern California for a private family trip. The visit drew attention not only for the high-profile guest but also for the protests that followed.

Disneyland Visit Met With Protests

According to local reports, including the Orange County Register, roughly 100 demonstrators gathered outside Disneyland during the visit. The protests, which included individuals waving flags and voicing opposition to federal immigration policies, were not directly linked to any political event Vance was attending.

Outside the Grand Californian Hotel, where the Vance family was reportedly staying, a small group of protesters staged additional demonstrations. Some local Democratic officials even encouraged their supporters to confront or criticize the Vice President while he vacationed in the region.

Newsom’s Controversial Comment

Governor Newsom joined in the criticism with a sharp post on X (formerly Twitter) that many interpreted as a personal attack. Using his official government account, Newsom wrote:

“Hope you enjoy your family time, @JDVance. The families you’re tearing apart certainly won’t.”

While the governor’s remark was applauded by some progressive voices, it drew widespread condemnation from conservatives and even moderate observers who saw the post as an inappropriate targeting of a public official’s family.

Context: Immigration Raid Fuels Tension

The uproar comes days after a high-profile immigration enforcement raid in nearby Ventura County. Federal agents conducted a sweep of a cannabis farm where they reportedly rescued several underage workers and detained about 300 individuals in the U.S. illegally.

Among those arrested was a man with a violent criminal past, including previous convictions for attempted child molestation and kidnapping. He was allegedly working alongside minors as young as 14.

Immigration officials cited the incident as an example of why stronger enforcement is needed, while critics of the raid pointed to fears among immigrant families and laborers, particularly in California’s agricultural industry.

Newsom’s comment appears to reference these raids, suggesting that the Vance administration’s immigration policies are contributing to the separation of families.

Public Reaction Divided

Reactions to the governor’s post were swift. Many on social media condemned Newsom for appearing to politicize a family vacation and for dragging young children into a public debate.

Conservative attorney Will Chamberlain fired back, saying:

“He’s not returning your underage illegal alien indentured servants to work on your donor’s pot farm, if that’s what you’re asking.”

Others accused Newsom of deflecting from California’s ongoing struggles with crime, homelessness, and drug-related labor abuses.

2028 Spotlight

The incident comes amid speculation that Newsom is eyeing a run for the presidency in 2028. As one of the most prominent Democratic governors in the country, his public statements are increasingly scrutinized for tone and strategy.

Whether this latest controversy will impact his political trajectory remains to be seen — but it’s clear the clash between the current California governor and the Vice President is heating up.
