In a solemn announcement that has shaken the nation and the world, the White House released a statement today confirming the death of former U.S. President Donald J. Trump.

The official press briefing, delivered at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time from the White House Briefing Room, began with the words: “It is with a heavy heart and profound sorrow that we confirm the passing of the 45th President of the United States, Donald John Trump.”

According to the statement, Mr. Trump passed away peacefully in his Florida residence at Mar-a-Lago late last night.

Sources close to the family report that he had been battling undisclosed health complications in recent months, though the exact cause of death has not yet been made public. The former president was 78 years old.

Current President Joe Biden, speaking from the Oval Office, called the news “a moment of great loss for the country.”

“Though we often stood on opposite sides of the aisle, Donald Trump was a towering figure in modern American politics. His voice and influence will remain part of the American story for generations.”

Flags across all federal buildings have been ordered to fly at half-staff for the next 10 days.

Plans for a state funeral are currently underway, with more details to be released by the Trump family and the National Cathedral.

Vice President Kamala Harris also shared her condolences, saying, “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Trump family.

No matter one’s political beliefs, today we pause to honor a former Commander-in-Chief.”

Trump’s political legacy remains a subject of fervent debate. As president from 2017 to 2021, he oversaw sweeping changes in U.S. policy, particularly on immigration, trade, and foreign relations.

He was impeached twice by the House of Representatives—once in 2019 and again in 2021—but acquitted both times by the Senate.

His post-presidency years were marked by continued political influence, rallies, and a strong grip on the Republican base.

Tributes from political allies and critics alike have begun flooding social media. Former Vice President Mike Pence called Trump “a historic leader who reshaped the GOP and stirred the spirit of millions.”

Meanwhile, former President Barack Obama expressed condolences to the Trump family and acknowledged the moment as “a time to reflect on the weight of leadership and the fragility of life.”
